O'FALLON VFW POST 5077 RECEIVES NATIONAL VFW AWARD

The Fisher House in St. Louis was the center of attention this evening as VFW Post 5077 hosted a Texas Hold'em fundraiser.  51 players entered for a chance to win over $950 in prize money.As part of the post's ongoing initiative, nearly $2,000 was raised for the Fisher House in St. Louis, bringing the post's total to just over $34,000.

VFW Post 5077 of O’Fallon, Missouri. has been selected to receive the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Award of Merit in the organization's Community Activities National Awards Program for Special Projects.

The Award of Merit is given for those community activities that fulfill a specific need and clearly benefit the community.

The Post was specifically cited for raising nearly $45,000 toward construction for the planner Fisher House in St. Louis. The Fisher House allows families to stay near military and VA medical centers where a sick or injured loved one is seeking treatment.

In announcing the award, VFW Commander-in-Chief Thomas J. Tradewell, Sr.  said, "Through our VFW Community Service program, we help in building a better and stronger America, and we fulfill our commitment to serve America's veterans and their families."

The VFW Community Activities National Awards Program for Special Projects is designed to reward VFW Posts, County Councils, Districts and Departments for unique and outstanding community service projects that are over and above what is expected of VFW units.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is a nonprofit veterans' service organization composed of combat veterans and those who currently serve on active duty or in the Guard and Reserves. Founded in 1899 and chartered by Congress in 1936, the VFW is the nation's largest organization of war veterans and is one of its oldest veterans' organizations.
