Polar Bear: I Come in Peace....

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

These are Norbert Rosing's striking images of a wild polar bear coming upon tethered sled dogs in the wilds of Canada 's Hudson Bay.

The photographer was sure that he was going to see the end of his dogs when the polar bear wandered in. It's hard to believe that this polar bear only needed to hug someone!

The Polar Bear returned every night that week to play with the dogs.

EDITORS NOTE:

Our Brian was born, raised and lived most of his adult life in various locations in Canada. His father was a canadian civilian who worked for the Canadian Government and was relocated often. Brian has lived as far north as the Edmonton area of Canada.

Brian loves to tell the kids about "Polar Bear Jails". It's not unusual for Polar Bears of the north to wander into populated areas - just come in town and walk down the street. When this happens, the Bears are sedated and moved to "Polar Bear Jail" (which is the same as 'tagged',  taken far north and released into the wilderness again.) Sometimes the bears return to the towns. When the Polar Bear becomes a "repeat offender", he is shipped to a zoo in need of a people-seeking bear.

And that's where Polar Bears for zoos come from!
