RASCALS SET FRANCHISE WINS RECORD

With the west division wild card wrapped up in last nights win over Evansville, the Rascals finished the sweep Sunday, winning their 57th game of the season, breaking the franchise’s single season wins record set by last year’s west division championship team.
For the third straight game, River City (57-38) fell behind Evansville early, allowing two unearned runs in the third inning, but for the third time in the series the Rascals would respond in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs on three hits, the final a two-run homerun from Josh Banda.
Rascals starter Josh Lowey (8-5) pitched seven innings, allowed his only earned run on the eighth hit in the seventh while striking out five.
River City would stretch their lead back to two runs in their half of the seventh with a two-out hit from Doug Sanders before the Otters (35-59) scored another unearned run off Nick Phillips in the eighth to close the score to 5-4.
Rascals’ rookie Eric Berkowitz pitched a perfect ninth for his first professional save.
The divisional round of the Frontier League playoffs begin Thursday night at Rent One Park in Marion, Ill as the Southern Illinois Miners host the Rascals for the first two games of the best-of-five series. River City will host games three and four Saturday and Sunday night at 7:05 and 5:05 respectively.
