The staff of The Scoop Newspaper extends our heart-felt sympathy to all the family and Sisters of the Most Precious Blood for their loss of one of their most beloved nuns, Sister Elaine Lamm. Our prayers also are extended for the recovery of Sister Marie Frances Wiederholt, 81. Both nuns were accidentally hit by a driver on Main Street, in front of Assumption Church in O’Fallon late Friday night after returning home from their annual fundraising “Night at the Cardinal Game”.

Sister Elaine Lamm, 64, was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Joseph Hospital West. Sister Marie Frances Wiederholt, 81, was seriously injured. She is now listed in fair condition.
Police said the car was heading north in the 400 block of North Main Street when it hit Lamm and Wiederholt. The driver of the car remained at the scene, and there was no indication alcohol was a factor. (Those who knew Sister Lamm know she would also want everyone to remember the driver involved in the incident in our prayers, as first findings indicate, this was a sad. unfortunate accident.) The identity of the driver has not been released.
Lamm and Wiederholt had exited a tour bus after returning from the St. Louis Cardinals game.
Sister Lamm will be dearly missed by the staff of The Scoop Newspaper where she often submitted event alerts for the convent for publication. “We often visited with Sister Lamm when we found her out and about –always helping a fellow Sister with transportation to Doctor’s appointments or running errands for another,” remembers Jayne Voss-Robinson of Scoop Publications. “God brought home one of his most glorious, giving workers from here on earth. She will be dearly missed by many, many people in this community."
Lamm joined the order in 1966 and was active with volunteer programs. Lamm earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Fontbonne University and a master's degree in science education from Creighton University in Omaha. Lamm’s life’s work included math and science educator at Bishop DuBourg High School and at St. Mary's Academy in O'Fallon.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph Chapel, 204 North Main Street in O'Fallon on Thursday, June 11, 2009.
