The Board of Education voted at the January meeting to place Proposition 3, a proposed tax levy increase, back on the ballot for the April 5th election.

In the past decade the WSD has more than doubled in size to almost 13,000 students. For this school year alone, more than 500 new students have enrolled in the District, and the projected enrollment over the next five years is expected to exceed 16,000.

The passage of Prop 3 would generate an estimated $60 million that would be used for new construction. The proceeds from the levy would be used to add 72 classrooms at the elementary and middle schools and to construct a third high school. The District's tax rate is currently $4.58 per $100 of assessed valuation. The proposed levy would increase that rate to approximately $4.88 per $100 of assessed valuation.

URecent data released by the U.S. Census Bureau confirms what we already knew…that the Wentzville School District is THE fastest growing school district in the state, and it’s not even close!

The number of residents in the District grew by 39,048, or an amazing 121% percent from 2000 to 2010. The total number of residents now living within the WSD attendance area is 71,390! Our District was the fastest growing both in total numbers and in percentage growth. The Independence Public Schools were second in total population growth, adding 25,771 new residents, or 13,277 fewer people than the WSD. The Grain Valley School District was second in percentage growth, at 100%, 21% behind the WSD and the only other District in the state to experience triple digit growth.
A big part of that increase came from the City of Wentzville which added over 22,000 people during the past decade and grew by a whopping 322%, the largest percentage increase of any city in the state. The third fastest growing city at 162% was Dardenne Prairie.
In fact the five communities within the Wentzville School District boundary are Wentzville, Lake St. Louis, O’Fallon, Foristell and Dardenne Prairie, and all five are in
the top 50 fastest growing communities (out of 637) in Missouri!
